Teuton urged dealers to take an interest in legislative issues – such as the President’s infrastructure proposal, changes to the tax code and regulatory burdens – that impact truck dealerships.
“ATD supported new legislation, H.R. 2946, which would eliminate the archaic federal excise tax altogether,” said Parker, president of Baltimore Potomac Truck Centers in Linthicum, Md.
Rick Reynolds, president of Peach State Truck Centers in Norcross, Ga., was named 2018 Truck Dealer of the Year—a national award that recognizes commercial-truck dealers for business performance, industry and civic leadership and community service.
ATD’s outlook for truck dealerships in 2018 and beyond is positive. Tailwinds stemming from the passage of new tax legislation, high levels of business and consumer confidence and higher profitability point to a strong year for new-truck sales and service this year.
Despite the unknowns of a new White House administration, truck dealers successfully advocated their issues in 2017 and, in the end, scored enormous wins on tax reform and regulations—from significant tax cuts for pass-through entities to influencing DOT’s ruling on electronic logging devices.
